Glasgow Science Festival 2025

,
In June 2025, Dr. Baptiste Poursat organised a water treatment activity at the Glasgow Science Festival 2025, with help from Madelyn Murphy, Sophie Singer, Dr. Fabien Cholet, Dr. Justin Sperling, and Dr. Tania Gomez Borraz. Over two days at the Kibble Palace in the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, they ran activities related to drinking water treatment with the aim of giving families and school groups a fun, hands-on way to learn about how water is treated.
The event featured a variety of activities, including a sand filtration system where visitors could see how water is cleaned, and a microscope station where they could look at microorganisms in water. The goal was to make the science behind water treatment more understandable and to show the important role science plays in making sure our drinking water is safe.
The event was a success, with lots of families and schools attending. There was plenty of interest and many great questions, especially about how Glasgow’s drinking water is treated. It was a great way to raise awareness about the importance of water treatment and to inspire future interest in environmental science. Discussions are already underway to participate again next year.
