Dr. Justin Sperling gave an invited talk entitled ‘Plasmonic tastebuds for the optical assessment of drinking water’ as part of the Optical Fibers and Sensors for Medical Diagnostics, Treatment, and Environmental Applications during SPIE BiOS 2024 in San Francisco. The talk focused on his most recent publication as part of the Decentralise Water Technologies project.

After his presentation, Justin was then invited to join the 2025 selection committee and serve as a session chair for 2025 conference.

During the conference, Justin also worked with the organisation OPTICA, of which he serves as the Events Chair on the Environmental Sensing Technical Group, to host a networking event for industry, academia, and researchers working in environmental sensing.
